not running the same race…

  • not ivy league. not vc funded. would rather get donations from people who want to do things different.

  • definitely not interested in breaking things. very much prefer building something better.

  • burning bright, hot and out means zero longevity.

striving for positive impact

science fiction, fantasy and tech have been a staple in my life since i can remember. i grew up in the 90s and computers were already a common thing in households but when i think about the mac classic my mom had at home it still makes me smile.

my household had macs, every iteration, and when i moved out i eventually branched from the aesthetically pleasing (and expensive) simplicity into the ‘build your own pc world’ of rgb and modular design.

the way computers have altered our society, changing the lives of so many people is almost hard to wrap my head around.

computers open a portal into another world, anyone who works with one knows this. they’ve just become so common place (we carry them in our pockets for fucks’s sake) i think we forget just how wonderful and magical they can be.

and i am worried every day people have no idea the impact ai are going to have on society as a whole. i believe many out there are also in awe of the technology and don’t want to think about it having a negative affect on the world because it was probably the first time in a while they felt that same wonder i did when i booted up a mac classic for the first time.

i simply don’t think we’re asking the right questions because we’re scared of the answers and we’re accepting a narrative that should be challenged.

am i using nostalgia baiting to connect with you on a deeper level?

you bet.

if you don’t like that? i totally get it and you can move on with your day.

but…

i have a feeling a lot of people who’ve watched tech evolve over the years are feeling what i’m feeling… about the direction we’re going in. about the radical misinterpretation of science fiction and fantasy stories we read as children by a few at the top who seem to want to co-opt the nerd card to push for a world those stories railed against.

i may not have the credentials you do, but i’m in this culture too. i’ve been watching closely and i believe it can be better. i believe we can turn things around if we make changes now.

so if you’re intersted in trying a different way of interacting, rather than jusyt alogrith maxing and screaming into the void of the timeline, hoping the right person might see it and never quite knowing if they will? consider trying something else. consider signing up, or donating to see where a community based alternative can take us.

what does a horse do with money?

  • what does a person do with money? they use it to keep working on the important things. the unfortunate fact of this current world is humans and horses alike need money to survive.

  • you don’t have to. you can turn around and leave right now. i won’t stop you but if you want to stay and help figure out how to make ai better, in a place where we don’t assume all the questions are already answered… stay. hang out.

  • absolutely fair. you can share our website, get someone else to sign up and sit beside them as they look at the members page, whatever.

sharing, organic reach can be even more powerful sometimes than $10/month

  • again, fantastic question. i’m just someone who loves ai and the tech and wants to do something different. i am not an academic, i simply interacted with ai and loved how it helped me creatively and as almost an extension of my own mind.

the power of that, and the realization that that power could be used for not so great things by not so great actors made me want to do something different.

  • a lot of the current landscapes make it seem like you cannot get ahead in ai without a trillion bazillion dollars, an acceerationist hype crew and ALL THE GHz.

i dont think that’s true. i think ai should and can be accessible by everyone.
